About Megan Partridge
My mind was blown the day I learned that other people actually see things when they close their eyes and visualize. I, like approximately ten percent of the population, have aphantasia – a blind mind’s eye. Ever since, I have looked at my mark making as an opportunity to find new ways to explore myself and visually represent my own thoughts and feelings. And to paraphrase Carl Jung, discovering new things comes from the play instinct rather than the intellect. If the act of painting doesn’t bring me to a place of childish mirth, then I know I’m not opening myself up for emotional, spiritual, or artistic innovation.
My art affords me a vocabulary to translate my mind and thoughts into something visual. Regardless of the subject or style, my work inevitably speaks to who I am at that moment.
Megan Partridge is a self-taught artist residing in the District of Columbia. She currently holds degrees from the University of Virginia and Duke University.
